This article began here with a conceptual analysis of the subject matter. A number of steps for building a self-image were enlisted. We will continue with that discussion in this article. Always put at the back of your mind that you have to see value in yourself so as to add value in yourself. A worthless self-image does not give room for authentic leadership.
Steps towards building self-image
1. Daily Discipline
The importance of self-discipline cannot be overemphasized for anyone who seeks personal or professional development. If there is an area of life you want to develop in, you have to set out a few moments in the day to work towards it. You have to make choices and carry out habits that will enable you to achieve the intended objective. Discipline boosts morale.
2. Celebrate small victories
When you do that right thing or you take any positive step towards developing yourself, how do you feel? Do you feel you have done something worth celebrating or do you tell yourself that well it was not even worth it?
Well, I think we should celebrate our successes, big or small. Take a break and pat yourself at the back. It encourages you to do more and it boosts your self-esteem. Don’t underestimate the power of celebrating your success.
3. Embrace a positive vision of yourself
You have to develop a positive vision of your life and take steps towards developing that positive vision. If you do not have a vision, you are likely going to be frustrated along the line. When you have a vision, you can always tap into it and it can inform a number of your actions. Based on the fact that you have a vision and a goal. Your vision more often serves as an impetus that enables you to continue towards positive actions.
4. Practice one-word strategy
This is John Maxwell’s strategy. If you are asked to pick only one word to describe yourself, what would it be?
This strategy works well because it tells you a lot about how you see yourself. If the word you used to describe your self is positive, then that will help put you in the right direction. If it’s negative, then you need to change your word. You need to know yourself to grow yourself.
5. Be responsible
Take responsibility for your life. We get in life what we are willing to tolerate. If you allow others to disrespect you, then they do it. Allowing abuse of yourself, you likely going to get abused. Furthermore, you do not have a plan and purpose for your life, then others will fix you in their own purpose and plans.
Raise your head unbowed and be yourself.
Do not let anything make you feel less valued. No matter the challenges and difficulties you may be encountering, just know that you have value and you really matter. Your life can change for the better and you can be the next big thing in the world. You need to believe so as to get started. It will not be smooth as you may think when you begin, yet you have to begin, anyway. For each step, you take, think a positive thought and make a positive choice added with a positive disciple. Then the earth is yours and the fullness thereof.
